CEEShub co-directors Birgit Poopuu and Benjamin Kalsche have joined the International Advisory Board of the new research project “Exploring Social Media Witnessing in Ukraine.”
The project, led by Maria Kyriakidou and Anne Kaun of Södertörn University and Jaana Davidjants of Tallinn University, examines how the war in Ukraine is witnessed and documented through social media in Sweden and Estonia.
The project explores how social media users and content creators negotiate questions of trust and authenticity, and how images and other visual representations of the war shape perceptions, emotional engagement and political understandings of the conflict. Using interviews, visual analysis and digital ethnography, the research aims to generate new insights relevant to academic debates, journalism and policy.
As members of the International Advisory Board, Birgit Poopuu and Benjamin Kalsche contribute expertise in international relations and security from a Central and Eastern European perspective, as well as experience in translating research findings into policy-relevant insights.
