The Kick-off event “A Critical Relational Perspective on Peace & Security in CEE”
November 26, 2024 from 15.00 to 17.00
Tallinn University, room A-002
The kick-off event offers a panel on plural perspectives on security with project partners, policymakers and civil society actors:
Prof Maria Mälksoo (University of Copenhagen), Dr Elise Feron (Tampere University), Dr Birgit Poopuu (Tallinn University), Jonatan Vseviov (Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Eero Janson (Director at Estonian Refugee Council). The panel is moderated by Dr Benjamin Klasche (Tallinn University).
The Central and Eastern European Security Hub (CEEShub) is an emerging research center which focuses on the perspectives of Central and Eastern European countries. The creation of the hub is, above all, propelled by the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine, its general impact on the region, and the previous practice in the study of peace and security. Both in practice and in the scientific world, peace and security have been studied largely through the political traditions of the great powers and the West, often ignoring the perspectives, needs and desires of small states. As a result, we are asking, what would security look like, and how is it talked about by small states, Central and Eastern European countries, and if the perspectives of non-military security are taken into account?
